A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid yelling at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments surfaced during the holidays, and just in case you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio known for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
