The announcement of an agreement expected to lead to the freeing captives detained within Gaza for over two years has caused joy and comfort across the nation.
A group that has advocated for the return of Israeli captives in Gaza expressed āprofound gratitudeā for what it termed a ālandmark achievementā.
The dealāstill requiring agreed upon Israelās war cabinetāinvolves the return of 20 living hostages and the bodies of 28 dead hostages in return for 250 Palestinian detainees imprisoned for life in Israeli jails plus 1,700 individuals from the Gaza region.
To date, 148 captives have come backālargely through earlier truce agreementsā51 sets of remains have been recovered while eight hostages were freed by rescue.
Celebratory Moments in Hostagesā Square
Joyous gatherings have unfolded in Hostagesā Square in Tel Aviv with crowds of individuals assembled ahead of the deal being signed.
A crowd started applauding and moving to music under US and Israeli flagsāa female attendee holding up a placard saying: āWe love Trump.ā
āThis is a wondrous day,ā the woman said.
A different person, 50-year-old Yael, cried while observing the crowd dancing.
āIām very excitedāitās such a relief,ā she said. āWe need to see their return home to their loved ones.ā

Families Celebrate with Fireworks
The mother and sister of Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker lit fireworks in celebration of the news that he would be homecoming.
āTheyāre coming back!... Matan is on his way home!ā Einav Zangauker exclaimed as she held her child.
Viki Cohen, the parent of captive Israeli Nimrod Cohen, posted on social media: āMy son, you are returning home.ā
The joy was palpable throughout the avenues of Tel Aviv following the news.
Freed Hostages Offer Prayers and Raise Glasses
Former British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari rejoiced with another freed hostage Romi Gonen, reciting prayers of gratitude, then cheering āLāchaimā, meaning āto lifeā. She has advocated for the freedom of her companions, the Berman twins Gali and Ziv.
Their brother Liran Berman posted: āMy dear Gali and Ziv, I adore you. You are coming back.ā
The cousin of Gil Dickman Carmel Gat was captured on 7 October 2023, with her remains recovered from an underground passage in Gaza nearly a year after. He has participated with other hostage families in pushing for an agreement that brings the homecoming of all those still detained in Gaza.
āI canāt quite believe this is actually happening. Weāve been waiting for such a long time and now itās here,ā he said.
He said he felt āshatteredā that his cousin will not be among those returning home yet felt āradiant with happinessā for the relatives of the captives who are at last coming back.
Eitan Horn was seized from Nir Oz kibbutz in southern Israel together with his sibling.
Guarded Hope from Family Members
Dalia Cusnir, whose brother-in-law Eitan Horn is still held in Gaza, remarked she felt like she was living āa dream stateā.
āWeāre more than grateful to President Trump and everything he has accomplished for us. We feel that this could be the beginning of the end of this nightmare, and embracing Eitan seems nearer than ever,ā she commented.
However, she warned that it remained too soon to rejoice.
āBefore the final captive returns, weāre not opening the bubbly. Weāre going to keep fighting... until itās over,ā she affirmed.
āNumerous events might occur until the last moment so this is why weāre being so, so careful. We simply wish to express gratitude to all who was involved in the efforts and make sure this agreement is done... We shall rejoice only when the last captive is safely home.ā
Eitan was taken from Nir Oz kibbutz in Israelās south along with his brother Iair, who was released from detainment in a ceasefire deal earlier in the year.
