The Actress States Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts across the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference at all on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has admitted freely about voting for both conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was voting against her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to defend women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her rejection of the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence public figures have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years appears changed,” commented Lawrence of his administration. “Since he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her mental health in a remote area. During a press conference for the film in the film festival, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the issue to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in the new film. Although Ramsay has disputed the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, the actress said that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a medication called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also discussed regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
